Ferry Corsten 1Mix RadioAlbum Review: Ferry Corsten – Twice in the blue moon remixed

This period is one of the best for music fans worldwide. The main reason is of course, that various artists release new material that we are waiting for with anticipation. One of them is the remixed edition of the highly successful album from the trance pioneer, DJ and producer - Ferry Corsten. It is no secret, that every self-respecting Trance artist, after the release of their main album, follows up with an album that collects the best remixes. Some of the tracks are out already, as part of the single release - or in this case, the majority of them are presented for the first time on this album. That is exactly the case with Twice in the blue moon - remixed by Ferry Corsten. He chose to offer his original tracks to some of the hottest names in EDM and Trance scene, in particular to interpret them in their own unique way, and a different direction. You can be rest assured, that the DJ who has played the best festivals and clubs all over the globe, has made the best selection from the available remixes. So it takes some skill, for this album to sound really diverse, and be as reflective as possible, of the current sounds and trends in the Trance scene. For each remix, I am going to offer marks out of 10, to convince you even more that you need to purchase it!

Review is written by Dimitri Kechagias “Flux Bpm on the move”

The album kicks off with the Rafael Frost mix of  Shelter Me. Currently, Rafael gets frequent plays in clubs and radio shows with his latest smash Black Box. In this Remix, he does exactly what you expected from him! A banging interpretation, with a fantastic break that highlights the beautiful melody of the original, and then in the main part, tough rocking beats to move and groove [10/10].

Straight from the  land of chocolates and watches comes DJ Mind & Jerry Ropero, to present their version of Black Velvet. Cool electro house beats, with great use of the highly sensitive vocals, and quite surprising - a much more Trance-orientated version. [8.5/10].

Everybody is exaggerating around the Lange mix of We Belong. All the heavyweights are including this tune in their sets, and finally this fantastic Electro Trance stormer is available to the public. 'We Belong' manage to bring Disco elements to the Trance scene - and this mix pushes the fantastic melody to the next level. You can expect Lange at its very best [10/10].

One of the most consistent and hard working artists, and label owner is coming next. Rich ‘Solarstone’ with his epic version of Gabriella's Sky. 9 minutes of pure pleasure and euphoria, and I feel the best choice to remix this great track. [10/10].

Then the Heatbeat mix of Made of Love. Betsie Larkin, in this track, offers her best performance anyone can ever call 'Anthem' of the generation of Trance love, peace and unity [10/10].

The tech Trance producer Ummet Ozcan, enters next the arena with his version of Radio Crash. Unfortunately, for me, he doesn’t use as much as I would like of the mind boggling riff of the original, but still keeps the energy levels high. [8/10].

DJ Eco from USA, has become firm favorite for the Trance scene, and his remixes and productions always have a constant level. He offered to do a remix on the title track of the album. He delivers an epic melodic interpretation, that contains  a highly atmospheric, carefully composed break. Then that main melodic theme comes back with the tough Trance beat, and you know that those hands will be thrown in the air till you reach that Blue Moon and not once but twice! [10/10].

Next remixer is the highly talented and influential Ashley Wallbridge with his version of Feel You. The beautiful vocal and that rockish feeling of the original is in the safe hands of Ashley. He gives an excellent progressive Trance mix that you will put on repeat mode in your IPod non stop. [ 10/10 ]

For the electro house headz next Patrick Plaice touches the track Life. Certainly his mix is very groovy and different from the rest - and its not bad for a warm up set in a club, or as peak time selection for an electro/prog house set [8.5/10].

Born and raised in The Netherlands and nowadays residing in Australia,  DJ and producer Marlo handles with care Brain Box. He is again, the best choice to use, in full effect, the instantly recognizable riff from the track. Full-on club stuff for the main programe [9/10].

More Dutch power comes next with Sied Van Riel remixing the east flavored Shanti in a super duper version that is very driving and highly effective [10/10].

Last but not least,  the magical Markus Schulz puts his hand on Brain Box in a version that you never expect to get for a ravey Trance tune. Markus goes into his deep bass, highly infectious directions, and really sees the original in a very different light [10/10].

With the majority of the remixes getting 10 out 10, I strongly believe that this is one of the best remix albums that we have seen in 2009. Highly recommended and totally essential, for Ferry followers, and of course ,for all of you who love the remixers included.

Many thanks to Lou and Rosie @ Cypher, and Jordy and Paula at Flashover recordings offices  for giving me the chance to review this album.
